Cover artist: Jack Kirby (September 1963)
The Avengers #1 - “The Coming of the Avengers!”
Part of the second release of Marvel editions published by Washington Green and hand-signed by the late great Stan Lee, who designed all of the classic Marvel comic-book characters back in the 60's, this superb giclée print on paper was one of only four covers specially selected by Stan Lee for a fine art portfolio to feature 'The Avengers'.
Comes signed and numbered, with the original certificate of authenticity from Washington Green.
The cover art was done by Jack Kirby and Dick Ayers, with the internal storylines written by Stan Lee, pencilled by Kirby and Ayers, coloured by Stan Goldberg, and lettered by Sam Rosen.
Backstory:
Loki, having been previously captured by Thor, is being held prisoner in Asgard. His physical form may be confined there, but by means of thought projection his disembodied self travels to Earth in search of revenge. He spots Thor in his human identity of Dr. Donald Blake, and after happening across the Hulk, he devises a wicked plan to entice Blake to transform into Thor and frame the Hulk.
Iron Man, Ant-Man and the Wasp pursue the Hulk, as Thor, having figured out Loki's involvement returns to earth with Loki to clear Hulk's name. Loki makes himself radioactive forcing the heroes to retreat, but stands over a trapdoor which Ant-Man triggers, dropping him into a lead-lined tank.
Upon celebrating their victory, Ant-Man and the Wasp point out how well they could work as a team, and that they should work together in the future. The Wasp suggests they should call themselves the Avengers, and everybody agrees.
'And there came a day, a day unlike any other, when Earth's mightiest heroes found themselves united against a common threat! On that day, the Avengers were born, to fight the foes no single super hero could withstand!'
All our wooden frames are expertly hand-made from locally sourced FSC® certified timber.

Our quality, tulip wood frames come with a solid, hand-sprayed finish in either Black or White, or Natural Oak with a wax finish.
Mount Style
Select either Full Bleed (flush to the edge), Floating, or Window Mount (using 100% pure cotton, archival, acid-free mount board).
Glazing
Select from either Perspex® Clear Cast (a lightweight, shatter-resistant, economical option), conservation grade Artshield UV or a superior Optium Museum Acrylic® - both are ultra clear, scratch-resistant, and provide protection by filtering out harmful UV light that can damage and fade works over time.
